Implementation

Having researched hydroponics and outlined my plans for a self regulating system, all I needed to do was to make it happen. 1 Networking The first step of implementation was to program the microcontroller to work like I had envisioned it. Something of note about a microcontroller is that it can act as a router of sorts, broadcasting a wireless local area network that shows up as a wifi network to join with its own cutsomisable name and network password.

Initial_design

1 General Concept I’ve chosen the Kratky method for its versatility. Because the plant is growing in a container of its own nutrients and water, the system is not very intensive to maintain. But in my time growing plants with this method, I’ve found the problems with this system. What I’ll be showing you are some solutions that I’ve developed to make the most out it. 2 Water Level Control Though the Kratky method lets plants grow in a container of water and nutrient solution, container size will affect how large a plant can grow without water level control.

1 Project Purpose The purpose of this project is to ensure sustainable local food production units and adresss: Common nutritional deficits in food desert areas. Rising food prices resulting from food distribution, processing, packaging, and storage, effectively cutting out the middle man. The time consuming, intensive nature of more traditional gardening techniques for personal produce production 2 Basic Concept The Kratky system is a zero power required system which relies on a plant’s root growth down towards a lowering water source to develop oxygen absorbing roots instead of keeping them at the same level of water like other systems.
